| Meet Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik |

A veteran of over 50 years in local law enforcement, Clarence W. Dupnik has served as the Sheriff of Pima County, Arizona, since his appointment in February 1980. County voters endorsed the choice nine months later by electing him to his first four-year term, and ratified that decision by re-electing him six additional times.

| Mission Statement |
 |
The Pima County Sheriff’s
Department is a public safety agency dedicated
to the fundamental mission of law enforcement
and adult detention services for Pima County.
Mission accomplishment is centered on providing
response to calls for law enforcement services,
preventive patrol, public assistance, criminal
investigations, and other special services
such as search and rescue and civil process.
The mission also includes the safe, secure,
and humane detention of all arrestees charged
with non-federal crimes in Pima County,
Arizona.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department
is committed to the advanced strategies
of community policing and the direct supervision
management of its detention facilities.
Both concepts involve the establishment
of dynamic partnerships with citizens,
communities, and other civic and criminal
justice agencies working together towards
common goals. The Pima County Sheriff’s
Department will continue to be a leader
and facilitator in attaining the goals
to overcome and solve community problems
with innovative ideas on crime prevention,
proactive inmate management strategies,
and public safety resulting in lasting
solutions, reduced fear, and a better life
for the residents of Pima County. |

Recognized as one of the
leading law enforcement agencies in the United
States, the Pima County Sheriff's Department
serves the 352,105 people living in the unincorporated
areas of Pima County. It is the 7th largest
county in the nation, encompassing 9,241
square miles, with 123 miles shared with
Mexico’s border. PCSD employs over
516 commissioned officers, more than 872
civilian and corrections personnel, and utilizes
the services of over 350 volunteers. |

bureaus.
The Operations
Bureau is comprised of the
Patrol and Support Operations Divisions.
The Investigations Bureau is comprised of the Criminal Investigations and Homeland Security Divisions.
The Corrections
Bureau is comprised
of the Housing
Operations, Inmate Processing, and Security Support Divisions.
The Administrative
Bureau is comprised
of the Administrative Services and Information Technology Divisions.

We are proud to present the history of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and an overview of our accomplishments over the past 24 years. These publications chronicle the evolution of the Department from the 1800’s and Deputy Wyatt Earp to the respected organization it is today. The overview highlights many of the notable initiatives and accomplishments of the Department and its numerous dedicated employees. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has become recognized as a leader and model public safety agency through personal development of department members and the integration of new technologies and equipment. This organization has excelled in every area of contemporary law enforcement and corrections. As a public safety organization, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is second to none. |

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department awards medals and certificates to members of the Department and citizens of the community to recognize acts of heroism, the performance of outstanding service, or injuries sustained in the line of duty.
