Torch Run |
 |
With
lights and sirens blaring, the Pima County
Sheriff’s Department once again
made an eye catching run up Oracle Road.
This
run was not in response to an emergency,
but in support of our community and the
Special Olympics.
|
 |
Pima County
Sheriff’s Department employees accepted
the torch handoff from approximately ten
Tucson Police Officers, including Chief Richard
Miranda. Over thirty Sheriff's Department
employees, along with Department of Public
Safety Officers and two Special Olympians,
ran the torch procession up Oracle Road from
River to Magee. |
 |
The
group was escorted by the Sheriff’s Motor Unit,
led by the Community Resource Unit’s
911 car, and followed by the DARE flag car.
Additionally, the runners were also supported
by the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers
and the Command Center. This was a total
Sheriff’s Department team effort in
support of the Special Olympics. At Magee,
the Sheriff’s Department passed the
torch to the Oro Valley Police
Department.
While one or two drivers may have grimaced regarding
the traffic inconvenience, many more honked, waved,
and smiled with encouragement. Truly, the Sheriff’s
Department has once again demonstrated its commitment
toward Special Olympics and the community of Pima County. |
