On May 23, 2008, at approximately 7:20am, Dorothy Carras (DOB 04/08/27) was murdered inside her residence in the 1600 blk. of W. Chimayo Place.  DNA evidence collected at the scene has led homicide detectives to obtain a warrant for the arrest of John Vincent Nitzke (DOB 06/09/60) for 1st Degree Murder and Sexual Assault. 

Shortly after midnight, John Vincent Nitzke was located by the Santa Monica Police Department when officers responded to a trespassing call.  It was determined that Mr. Nitzke had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  He was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit flew to Santa Monica, California early this morning to make contact with law enforcement authorities in reference to the apprehension.  At this time, Mr. Nitzke awaits extradition from California.
