Search and Rescue

On June 11, 2008, at approximately 4:00pm, deputies were flagged down at milepost 16 on Mt. Lemmon regarding a missing fifteen (15) year-old female.  The female was part of a church group that was rappelling.  The young female was not feeling well and advised she was returning to the vehicles; however, when the group returned the female was not found.

Deputies, along with Southern Arizona Rescue Association (SARA), responded to the scene.  Customs and Border Protection/Border Patrol responded with two certified BORSTAR Agents and a CBP Blackhawk; the female was found approximately two (2) miles from the last point seen.  The female suffered only scratches and bruises.  The BORSTAR Agents, along with SARA members, were dropped in an area where they could walk to the female and then walked her out.  She was eventually flown out on the Blackhawk and reunited with her group.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is thankful to the continued help and support from SARA and the Customs and Border Protection/Border Patrol.
