On May 1, 2008, at approximately 12:00pm, deputies from the Rincon District responded to a check welfare call in the 8100 blk. of South Placita Gijon.  A family member reported that they were unable to contact Edna Sue Phifer (DOB 04/22/47) by telephone and were concerned.  They called 911 requesting personal contact due to their growing concern.  Deputies were unsuccessful in initial contact at the front door.  They entered the home and found Ms. Phifer deceased with obvious signs of trauma.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit detectives responded to further investigate.  Today, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Wayne Charles Phifer (DOB 06/16/78), the victim’s son, for 1st Degree Murder.  It is believed that Mr. Phifer may be traveling in a silver 2002 Acura, bearing Arizona License Plate No. 373VYE.  Mr. Phifer should be considered armed and dangerous.  Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
