On July 17, 2006, Norma Jean Jay (DOB 01/10/47), was found brutally murdered in her home in the 11400 block of South Cherokee Lane, in the Three Points area. Ms. Jay was stabbed numerous times. Her attacker tried to cover up the crime by pouring cleaning solution over the scene and body before setting fire to her home. A passing motorist called 911 and then attempted to extinguish the fire as responding units arrived.
It is known that Ms. Jay was a substitute teacher for the Alter Valley School District; she was also known in the local artist arena. It is also known that Ms. Jay frequented local south side bars.
The case is nearly two years old and Homicide detectives have exhausted all leads. Mr. Lee Allyn, Norma Jean Jay’s son, is making a plea to the public for any help in solving his mother’s murder. Mr. Allyn is available for interviews on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at 2:00pm, at the Pima County Sheriff’s Administration Building located at 1750 E. Benson Highway.
